Firing Asha - Catenary Arch Kiln

Earlier in the year I fired my Catenary Arch kiln with my daughter Elise.

During my earlier years working in clay I use to salt glaze. It seems like I am coming full circle and have now been exploring ‘soda firing’ which is more environmentally friendly.

Basically I get the kiln up to cone 10 and then start introducing soda. in the form of cakes. Soda interacts with the silica in the clay and attaches itself forming a glazed surface.

I have attached a few images from this firing
